Jude Law will soon play Vladimir Putin in the next

Olivier Assayas is preparing the film adaptation of the political thriller “The Mage of the Kremlin” by Giuliano da Empoli.

The British actor revealed in an interview with Deadlineon January 9, that he would play Vladimir Putin in the film The Mage of the Kremlindirected by French filmmaker Olivier Assayas and whose screenplay was co-written by Emmanuel Carrère.

This is the film adaptation of thriller geopolitics of Giuliano da Empoli. This book notably won the Grand Prix du roman of the French Academy in 2022. The plot of Kremlin Mage takes place in Russia, in the aftermath of the collapse of the USSR. We follow a young television producer who will gradually become the image advisor to a member of the FSB (formerly the KGB), Vladimir Putin. This novel takes place over several years and evokes key moments in Russian history, such as the second war in Chechnya, the Russian presidential election of 2000 and the Orange Revolution of 2004.

The 52-year-old actor, unforgettable in the romantic comedy The Holidayrevealed to the American media that he was still questioning this role, wondering how he was going to “succeed in understanding this contemporary historical character. It is up to me to find the right incarnation”.

Jude Law will find in the casting the actress Alicia Vikander, with whom he already played in The Queen’s Game. He will also opposite Paul Dano (The Batman), Zach Galifianakis (Very Bad Trip) or Tom Sturridge (Sandman). For the moment, the release date is not yet known, but it seems difficult to imagine an arrival on the big screens before 2026.
