The United States bans Chinese software in vehicles that could move autonomously to some extent in the future. The ban also applies to software produced in Russia.
– Today’s cars are not just steel on tires, they are computers, commented the US Minister of Commerce Gina Raimondo.
– This is a targeted measure to keep Chinese and Russian technology off American roads, Raimondo continued.
The ban has previously been justified by endangering national security.
The significance of the line for the US car market is comparatively small. Few Chinese or Russian cars are sold in the US.
