After the fatal train accidents in home care in Dalarna – The union: Must be investigated

It was the social democratic local and regional politician Nall Lasse Andersson who died last week when his car was hit by a timber train at an unguarded railway crossing in Nås. He worked for the home service in Vansbro municipality and was on duty when he was about to cross the railway tracks.

– It is a workplace in mourning, it is shocking and in this situation it is only for us to be there. I knew him myself personally and it is a sadness that he is no longer around. It is an entire municipality that is affected by this, says Lars Ähdel, who is the union Kommunal’s main protection representative for, among other things, Äldreomsorgen in Vansbro municipality.

Second accident in two years

On April 19, 2023, a woman, who also worked in home care, was hit by a train at an unguarded level crossing in Fu outside Mora. After that accident, the home care service in Mora decided that the staff should be trained more in road safety. There, the municipality also stated that they would review whether there was a lack of time for the staff and that they would review the planning and scheduling.

The police and the Work Environment Agency are investigating

Kommunal does not want to draw any conclusions based on the latest fatal accident in Nås.

– We’ll let the police investigation and the Work Environment Agency’s investigation take their course, then we’ll see what needs there are going forward, says Lars Ähdel.
