Tesla introduced the renewed Model Y in China. This new model offers design changes, increased range and improved performance. However, these improvements come with an increase in price.
Renewed Model Y in China “Launch Series” Under its name, it is offered in two versions: rear-wheel drive and long-range all-wheel drive. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in March, but are subject to regulatory approvals in China.
The rear-wheel-drive Model Y has a starting price of RMB 263,500 (approximately $35,940), while the long-range all-wheel-drive version is offered with a price tag of RMB 303,500 (approximately $41,400). This is an increase of RMB 13,600 ($1,850) and RMB 12,600 ($1,700), respectively, compared to previous models (models with the old chassis).
For customers who order early, Tesla is offering an additional two years or 40,000 km warranty on orders placed by February 28. Update: On day one, Tesla received orders for nearly 50,000 new Model Ys.
In the exterior design, the redesigned headlights and taillights, inspired by the Cybertruck and Cybercab models, attract attention. The continuous light design, in particular, reflects a growing trend among Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers.
In terms of performance, the rear-wheel drive version achieves a CLTC range of 592 km with a 62.5 kWh battery; This is an increase of 38 km over the previous model. Thanks to its 220 kW rear engine, it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds; This is 0.6 seconds faster than the previous model.
The long-range four-wheel drive version offers a CLTC range of 719 km with a 78.4 kWh battery; This is an improvement of 30 km and a new record for Model Y. It reaches speeds from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds with its dual engine with a total power of 331 kW.
Both models have a top speed of 200 km/h. (the previous model had a speed of 217km/h) The rear-wheel drive version supports DC fast charging up to 170 kW, and the long-range version supports up to 250 kW. Tesla states that a 250 km range can be gained with a 15-minute charge.
In terms of dimensions, the renewed Model Y is 4,800 mm long, 1,920 mm wide and 1,625 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,890 mm. The rear-wheel drive version weighs 1,920 kg, and the long-range version weighs 1,993 kg.
Tesla has equipped the renewed Model Y with the latest Hardware 4.0 (AI4) Autopilot system. The standard exterior color is grey, with white and blue colors available for an additional RMB 8,000 ($1,080) and red and silver colors available for RMB 12,000 ($1,640).
Immediately after the introduction of the new Model Y, Tesla started taking orders in New Zealand and Singapore. In Singapore, the rear-wheel-drive model starts at around $56,000, while the long-range version starts at $63,300. In New Zealand, the rear-wheel drive version has a starting price of $42,700 and the long-range model has a starting price of $46,400. Interestingly, while the 5-seat layout is offered as standard in China and Singapore, this suggests that 7-seat versions may also be launched soon.
Model Y has quickly become a benchmark in the electric SUV segment in China and has influenced the pricing strategies of many domestic automakers. In 2024, Tesla delivered 480,309 Model Y deliveries in China, accounting for 73.1% of the company’s total deliveries in the country.
Despite a slight decline in global deliveries in 2024, Tesla recorded growth in China, delivering 657,102 vehicles, an increase of 8.85% over 2023. Model Y deliveries increased by 5.24%, while Model 3 deliveries showed a more significant increase of 20.05%.
Although there is no clear information about when Tesla Model Y will come to Turkey, I think it will be available for pre-order in February and deliveries will start in about 5-6 months.
