Representatives of Iran and the three leading European countries Britain, France and Germany are holding talks about Iran’s nuclear energy program behind closed doors. The talks in Geneva are being held ahead of Donald Trump’s assumption of the presidency of the United States.

The parties, where the three European countries go by the designation E3, are even secretive about the items on the agenda.

“They discussed issues of mutual interest, including negotiations to lift sanctions, the issue of nuclear energy and the worrying situation in the region,” the Iranian-controlled Isna news agency reported, citing Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi.

The meeting between the parties was the second in as many months.
