An IT engineer accidentally lost a fortune worth €750 million in a landfill. Since then he has been desperately trying to get his fortune back. The case has now been decided in the High Court in England.
James Howells was an IT engineer and gained notoriety among crypto fans. On MeinMMO we already reported on the engineer who lost his fortune in a landfill:
Given the high value, it is hardly surprising that the engineer wants his now large fortune back. He has been battling with Newport City Council for months to gain access to the landfill.
For this reason, he sued the city. Because the city of Newport didn’t want to give him access to the landfill for environmental reasons. And it will probably stay that way now.
The court dismisses the lawsuit and the user is not allowed to look for his money in the trash
How does things turn out now? The responsible court, the High Court, has now decided in the case. Namely against the 39-year-old, who has been looking for his Bitcoins for years. The court declared that the plaintiff would not be allowed to go to the landfill to find his assets. This is reported by the English news portal BBC.com.
The responsible judge, Andrew Keyser, explained that too much time had passed between the disposal and today. 10 years have now passed. It is also said that the lawsuit in court has no chance of success.
The plaintiff is accordingly disappointed that the court dismissed his lawsuit. He explained that he even wanted to share his money, but the English court was not interested in it:
The dismissal of the case at the first hearing does not even give me the opportunity to explain myself or a chance for justice of any kind. There was so much more that could have been explained in a full trial and that’s exactly what I expected. (…)
I am not concerned with greed, I am happy to share the proceeds, but no one in a position of power will have a rational conversation with me (…) This ruling has taken everything from me and left me with nothing. The great British system of injustice has struck again.
He added that he had “tried to engage with Newport City Council in every way possible for the last 12 years” and to now be told his time was up felt like “a kick in the butt”.
Another Bitcoin owner also has a large fortune that he cannot access. But the big problem here is not the city administration, but a missing password. Experts are now even offering him help, but he refuses: A German still has two attempts to get 222 million euros – An expert wants to help him, but he refuses the help
