Bra owner: The Swedes stopped flying domestically after the pandemic

Domestic flights from Sweden’s ten largest state airports have decreased by 40 percent since the pandemic.

The airline Bra, which dominated the flights from Bromma, had around 2.5 million passengers before the corona crisis. When the pandemic was over, only 1 million customers returned. This forced the company to leave Bromma and instead fly on behalf of SAS.

The government wants to keep Bromma airport

Today, 90 percent of air traffic from Bromma has ceased and there are only two regular departures per day, as well as business flights, private jets and ambulance flights from the airport.

When SVT visits Bromma airport, the only regular flight of the day has departed, there were 11 travelers on board to Trollhättan.

But despite so few flying from Bromma, the government has signaled that the airport will continue operations. The agreement between the Tidö parties states that no decision on closure shall be made during the mandate period.

Swedavia: “There is no market for two airports”

State-owned Swedavia, which operates airports in Sweden, writes in a report that there is no business basis for Bromma to be continued and that there is a lack of a market for two airports four miles apart in Stockholm.

The Stockholm Chamber of Commerce is also negative and warns that the costs of continuing to operate Bromma without air traffic risks affecting their expansion of Arlanda and further worsening the conditions for domestic flights.
