Visan of Iisalmi Vilma Ryytty crowned his Imatra WC weekend by winning the 20 km combined race in addition to silver medals in the pair sprint and 10 km traditional.
The Finnish championship is the first for 23-year-old Ryyty. The title sounded incredible to Ryyty at the finish.
– A month ago, I was 11th here in Imatra Spa Skiing and I probably lost five minutes to the front. So it’s been quite a month and a really crazy weekend, Ryytty says.
Based on the results lists, Ryytty lost For the winner of the 20 km traditional spa cross-country skiing For Fanny Kukonlehto 1.57.
– This was a really good and intact training session. I trained a little differently than usual, and I got successful results. I also trained for the combined race.
Ryytty arrived on Sunday from the traditional 10 km section to exchange skis with the leading group.
Although he was competing in the combined race for the first time, he was clearly in a good position to change his skis and entered the free stage with a five-second lead.
– It went really well. I was a bit nervous, as I have never changed equipment in a stall like that before.
Strong display
In the free section, the difference to the runner-up Anne Kyllönen eventually increased to 32.5 seconds.
– I was a little surprised during the first couple of rounds. I didn’t think I’d be able to get away like that at the beginning. I had to ask the guardians how much the difference is from others. The last two rounds were already feeling confident.
Imatra’s competitions serve as an observation competition for the next World Cup competitions.
Ryytty gave strong performances in international circles over the weekend, where he last skied to the finish in the Lahti World Cup last March.
– This is the best possible way to continue this winter. My condition and energy feel good.
Tiainen surprised
In second place was Anne Kyllönen, who held a young surprise, the Liperi Ski Club Maija Tiaisen, 21, four seconds behind him. Eveliina Piippo dropped out of the medal fight in the last hundreds of meters to fourth.
The SM medal was Tiiainen’s first at the adult level. She bravely tried to run away from national team members Kyllöne and Piipo before the last 2.5 kilometer run.
– This winter time off has gone really well. There was credit for doing the free and I was really looking forward to that part of the free, even though the skiathlon exercises haven’t actually been done, Tiainen said.
– I set out to try something new. It’s nice that I went and dared to go after the others.
