Incumbent President Zoran Milanović is expected to win a second term when Croatia goes to the polls on Sunday.
The main opponent, Dragan Primorac, backed by the conservative HDZ that holds power in Croatia, received just under 20 percent of the vote in the first round of elections two weeks ago.
He is therefore not expected to be able to challenge Milanović who with 49 percent of the votes in the first round secured the win already then.
Zoran Milanović was previously the party leader of the Social Democrats but has made a political journey and is now sharply critical of both the EU and NATO. He has also criticized the sanctions against Russia which are aimed at the country because of the war in Ukraine.
The president of Croatia has some power in the country’s foreign and security policy. He is also the commander of the Armed Forces of Croatia.
The polling stations close at 19:00 Swedish time.
