Strong winds caused a sulfur smell on Gotland

– Our assessment is that the smell is harmless. But of course you can feel discomfort from a strong smell, says Elina Ramsell, civil servant on standby at Region Gotland.

During the morning, they received many calls, but then it slowed down.

– We have released information, including on the radio, P4 Gotland, she says.

On Saturday afternoon, rescue manager Lars-Göran Uddholm told the radio channel that the strong winds cause high waves that stir up the bottom sediment, which contains hydrogen sulfide that smells like rotten eggs.
