Factorio inspires tens of thousands of players every day. But the well-known German streamer Trymacs now tells in an anecdote why this can also be dangerous. Because he was totally addicted to the game.
What kind of game is this? In Factorio you build a factory either alone or with other players, extract resources and automate production. At some point you eventually want to build a rocket to leave the planet.
The game has been exciting on Steam for years: tens of thousands of players still play the game every day (via steamdb.info). With its new expansion, Factorio even briefly increased its player numbers fivefold, and the numbers have now leveled off at between 30,000 and 40,000 daily players.
If you look at the recent reviews on Steam, you’ll quickly see that many reviewers have played hundreds, if not thousands, of games with Factorio. But the Twitch streamer Trymacs now explains in an anecdote how bad addiction to the game can get.
Factorio for 4 days, 15 hours each: “Bro, that’s crazy addictive”
This is what Trymacs says: In a conversation with Twitch colleague Rumathra, he says that he played Factorio for 15 hours over four days. When he went to bed that evening, he took his girlfriend’s hand and continued to think about Factorio. His thoughts about the game would have followed him to bed. He himself says: “Bro, that’s crazy addictive.”
You can find the conversation, which lasts around a minute, on YouTube.com. Here he says:
That’s how it happened. For example, you can see here, folks, how absolutely perfectly the conveyor belts follow a common curve. After 15 hours of Factorio for 4 days in a row, I lay down in bed next to my girlfriend, took her hand and then I thought to myself how perfectly my fingers fit together around the curve.
I built this well, like the conveyor belts in the game. I took my girlfriend’s hand and thought my fingers were conveyor belts that fit together perfectly. Bro, this is crazy addictive.
Trymacs no longer just plays Factorio. If you look on Twitch and YouTube, he has been playing the shooter Fortnite again in the past few days.
However, a satirical PR stunt by HandOfBlood and Eintracht Spandau was less well received by many viewers. The well-known streamer HandOfBlood explained that he wanted to bring several Twitch streamers into his professional League of Legends team, including Trymacs. The idea was met with loud criticism from a number of fans who were anything but enthusiastic about the idea: HandOfBlood says he is bringing 2 Twitch streamers into his professional team at LoL, fans are raging
