The indoor athletics season has started properly.
Quick beeper Nooralotta Neziri returned to the race tracks after last spring and ran 60 meters on Saturday in a time of 7.42 in Tampere’s Pirkkahalli. The result falls short of Nezir’s record by two hundredths and is the domestic top time of the Halli period.
The speed hurdle specialist also ran the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.35. Nezir’s record is 7.91.
Nezir’s competition season was cut short last spring due to a plantar tendon injury. He was only able to start training in the fall.
– I came to this race with a puzzled mind. There has been variability in training. Sometimes it feels like I’m at a record pace, but the recovery hasn’t been that fast, Neziri said.
Neziri has spent a five-week training period in Tenerife.
– The hurdles seemed technically okay, but the video looked like nothing was happening, Neziri assessed.
Quick sounders Saara Keskitalo and Vilma Mäki started the reign with their records. Keskitalo, representing Espoo’s Tapio, won the two 60-meter hurdle races of the Lahti Sprint Cup on Saturday with times 8.12 and 8.18. Keskitalo’s previous record was 8.22.
Keskitalo’s record ranks 6th in the domestic all-time statistics, and Mäki’s result is 11th in the all-time statistics.
In Lahti, after two 60-meter hurdles, Keskitalo also won the 60-meter smooth run with a time of 7.43, which is two hundredths of a second behind his record.
The fastest in the men’s 60-meter hurdles was the Jyväskylä Kenttäurheilid Santeri Kuusiniemi with a time of 7.77.
The men’s 60-meter smooth was won by the reigning 400-meter Finnish champion Juho Venäläinen from Lappeenrantan Urheilu-Mieh and the other one was Matias Salminen from Ahkera in Lahti. Both ran the same time of 6.91.
