Playful offices – that’s how efficient they are

Playful offices are a trend that was started about ten years ago by large international companies, many in the IT industry. It can be about offices that are decorated like, for example, amusement parks, living rooms or nature.

According to Viktorija Kalonaityte, a researcher at the Linnaeus University who, among other things, studied playful offices, they are particularly popular in companies that want to see themselves as innovative.

– Playful offices are probably less common than we think. But they get a lot of attention in the media and on social media, she says.

Attracts attention

According to Viktorija Kalonaityte, whether it is good or not to have playful offices depends on what the purpose is.

– What playful offices achieve very effectively is outward communication and attracting attention from external parties.

However, whether this type of office really stimulates, for example, creativity among the employees is less clear.

– How they affect employees and their performance, on the other hand, is much more murky to say about. We know very little about that, says Viktorija Kalonaityte.
