In his career, acting star Denzel Washington has worked with many great directors such as Ridley Scott and Spike Lee. There was almost a joint project between Washington and the later Fight Club director David Fincher in the 90s.
Specifically, it was about the masterpiece Seven, the one for the Moviepilot community the best serial killer thriller of all time is. However, the actor turned down the role, which Brad Pitt eventually took over.
Denzel Washington was put off by Seven’s script
In the 1995 Fincher film, young Detective Mills (Brad Pitt) and experienced, near-retirement Detective Lt. Somerset (Morgan Freeman) a serial killer. After the seven deadly sins (envy, gluttony, greed, lust, pride, sloth and anger), for example, victims are fed to death or fatally mutilate themselves.
Before Sieben went into production with the final stars, Denzel Washington also got his hands on the script as a potential Mills actor. According to CTV News, the star spoke out in 2014 about how the story was way too intense for him. He declined the offer because of the harshness of the script. When he later saw the serial killer thriller in the cinema, he was annoyed by this step, but recognized the inherent quality of the result:
Obviously it wasn’t for me, it was for Brad all along. It was just too much when I read it, it was just different when I saw it.
