Suvi Minkkinen continued her good form at the Biathlon World Cup in Oberhof, Germany, when she finished eighth in the women’s pursuit race.
Minkkinen, who started in fifth place, dropped all the boards at the first shooting position and rose to fourth place for a while. However, two penalty laps in the second berth dropped him to 11th.
Minkkinen was not startled by this, but cleared the vertical positions cleanly and got back into the fight for the podium. In the end, the Finn’s skiing speed was not quite enough for the podium.
The race was won by France Lou Jeanmonnot before Norway Maren Kirkeeidea and Sweden Elvira Öberg. Minkkinen, who froze in the last hundreds of meters, was 39 seconds behind the winner and about 13 seconds behind the third place.
Before this season, eighth place would have been a top performance for Minkkinen. This past winter, however, seven people have already clicked on investments in kimmpisacks.
Urheilu’s biathlon expert Ville Kotikumpu regretted the misses of the other berth.
– More would have been available, but it could not be taken today. But you have to remember that two misses out of 20 is not bad, we’re talking about 90 percent hit accuracy, which is very good, Kotikumpu said.
– But of course we always thirst for better performances and certainly Suvikin thirsts for them and wants to shoot better and faster all the time – as well as ski harder and get podium positions. Today, with zero shooting, he would have even fought for victory.
Remember the Finns Venla Lehtonen was the 17th Sonja Leinamo 29th and Inka Hämäläinen 36:s.
