10.45 pm: Fire breaks out in Soest
A fire broke out in an apartment on Wiardi Beckmanstraat in Soest. The fire started around 10:30 p.m. due to an explosion caused by the use of a gas cylinder, the fire brigade said. The fire brigade reports that there are no injuries.
7 p.m.: Gritters hit the road
Several municipalities and other road authorities will be spreading again this evening because slippery conditions are expected. In Utrecht, the municipality starts spreading at 7 p.m. Rijkswaterstaat vehicles are now also busy with gritting actions on the national highways.
The KNMI has declared code yellow for almost the entire country because it can become slippery due to freezing of wet road sections. There is also a very local risk of icy conditions. The warning applies in the province of Utrecht from 8 p.m. until 11 a.m. tomorrow morning.
5.20 pm: Record number of tips about illegal fireworks
Report Crime Anonymous received a record number of tips about illegal fireworks last year. Thanks to these tips, almost a thousand kilos of illegal fireworks were intercepted in Soest. In one home, 75 kilos of fireworks were found with “a self-made projectile.” The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) investigated it and detonated it on the Leusderheide.
The tips received by M concerned the storage and illegal trade of heavy and dangerous fireworks. Cobras, shells and mortar bombs were often found.
3:15 p.m.: Motorist who hit toddler reports himself
Last December, a 3-year-old child was hit by a motorist. After the driver saw himself in the Bureau Hengeveld broadcast, he reported to the police station. It concerns a 20-year-old man from Utrecht.
2.48 pm: Suspects arrested on suspicion of explosion at Feyenoord players’ bus
Three suspects from Utrecht and Maarn have been detained since last night on suspicion of vandalism. They are suspected of involvement in the explosion of the Feyenoord players’ bus on November 12, 2024.
2.30 pm: Moped rides on the A27 to Hilversum
A moped rode this afternoon via the A27 from Bilthoven to Hilversum. A moped only goes 25 kilometers per hour. At the Hilversum exit, the driver of the moped was taken off the road by the police.
1:49 p.m.: Driver drives without a driver’s license in Zeist
A driver was caught driving with an invalid driver’s license in Zeist today for the second time in eight days. The police kept a discreet eye on the vehicle and had warned the driver that it would be seized if it was repeated.
Despite the warning, the driver got behind the wheel again after half an hour. The police then arrested the driver and seized the car. The public prosecutor will decide what to do with the vehicle. In addition, the officer will demand a penalty for driving without a driver’s license, which is a criminal offense.
10.30 am: Firearms-threatening suspect in home robbery arrested in Utrecht
The police have arrested a third suspect in connection with a home robbery on Oud-Wulvenlaan in Utrecht.
After DNA testing, the police were able to arrest two suspects that same month. This concerns a 22-year-old man from Houten and a 21-year-old man from Utrecht. The third suspect was also arrested last week. He is also 21 years old and comes from Utrecht.
6 a.m.: Code yellow due to slippery road conditions
The KNMI warns that it may be slippery in the province of Utrecht this morning. That is why code yellow applies until 11 a.m. and it is recommended to be extra careful on the road.
