It is frequently said that with developing technology, robots can replace humans in many sectors. This being the case, the future of some professions, from factories to call centers, is being questioned.
Videos circulating on social media recently, claiming that the famous billionaire Elon Musk was shaved by a robot, caused reactions in the barbershop community.
“Is the end of barbers coming?” Yakup Güleç, President of the Denizli Chamber of Barbers, Hairdressers and Beauty Salon Operators, did not remain indifferent to these images that brought to mind the question.
Stating that the images and the comments made afterwards were funny, Güleç claimed that such videos, which have no connection with reality, would alienate young people considering barbering from the profession.
Pointing out that developing technology continues to enter all areas of life, Mayor Güleç made the following statements in his statement:
“THEY CANNOT UNDERSTAND THESE MINDSET, AND EVEN IF THEY UNDERSTAND, THEY CANNOT FEEL”
“You can never compare barbers, hairdressers and beauty centers with a machine. People’s head structures, hair structures and ear structures are different by nature. Not every hair cut is the same. Robots have information and programs loaded by people. They cannot understand these mental structures, and even if they understand, they cannot feel them.” Our job requires feeling and human connection. A machine can never do this.
“THERE IS NO POSSIBILITY OF ROBOTS DOING THESE”
Our profession can never end. Because a robot has no heart, no soul, no thought. Robots also work with programs installed by humans. People’s head structures, hair structures and ear structures are different. Not every hair cut is the same. Some hair is cut short and some hair is cut long, due to head and hair structures. The barber gets to know the customer’s head shape by touching him before he starts shaving. Then the barber reveals your situation according to your mentality and does that. A robot has no dreams.
The barber determines how to shave according to the head structure, hair structure, ear structure, skin structure and facial structure, and then imagines and makes the model accordingly. Therefore, shaving can be done by barbers, hairdressers and beauty salons. It takes 10 seconds for a barber to recognize a customer he has never met. The barber understands the psychology and emotional state of that customer within 10 seconds. Then, when he takes the customer to the seat, he first asks “How are you?” and continues the conversation according to the answer. He tries to understand why the customer is angry or disturbed by asking different questions. He does this so that the customer can talk, share and feel better. Because barbers not only care for hair and face, but also relax their customers both mentally and emotionally. “There is no possibility of robots doing these,” he said. (UAV)
