This is why everyone should put cardboard and aluminum foil behind radiators.
Heating is becoming more and more expensive. So to avoid seeing their gas and electricity bills skyrocket in winter and continue to live comfortably at home, many people are trying to find tips to gain a few degrees at home without having to change radiators or pay astronomical sums for heating. .
A good idea to reduce heat loss in your interior and increase comfort is to install a heat reflector behind the radiators. And yes, did you know that according to experts, around 25% of a home’s heat can be lost through poorly insulated walls? And that 50% of the heat emitted by your radiators is directed towards the wall and not into the room you wish to heat?
It is therefore essential to insulate your walls behind your radiators so as not to lose the heat emitted by them, especially if your radiators are against an exterior wall. Many are turning to easy-to-install solutions such as reflective films or reflective panels, two effective solutions that are really easy to implement. This will result in greater heat reflection which will be better diffused into the room instead of being lost against the wall.
Installing an insulation system behind radiators can reduce heat loss by up to 10% and lower your heating bill by up to 7.5%. These solutions, although they save you money, still have a cost. For example, a 5 m heat reflector roll costs on average 20 euros at Leroy Merlin, while a reflective plate costs on average 25 euros (for a radiator).
Good news, we have an even cheaper solution that you can make yourself. And for this, you don’t need to be a great handyman. All you need: cardboard, aluminum foil, a stapler, and that’s it! Start by cutting a piece of cardboard the size of your radiator, and even a little more (at the end, the aluminum should still be visible for better heat reflection).
Cover the cardboard with aluminum foil and staple the corners tightly so that the aluminum foil fits well on the cardboard. Put the cardboard behind your radiator against the wall. Be careful to respect this precaution: leave a space of a few centimeters between the heater and the cardboard. Do the same for each of your radiators.
A simple and effective solution to gain a few degrees at home, for less than 5 euros! By making this homemade heat reflector, you increase the efficiency of your heating, and you will gain comfort while reducing (a little) your bill.
