On Monday, charges will be brought against four people for gross fraud.
In the spring of 2024, Uppdrag review was able to show how a league stole large sums of money from the elderly. A hacker sent recordings from the fraudsters’ computers and phone calls. The hacker also gave the material to the police.
In March 2024, four people were arrested and have since been in custody. The indictment concerns aggravated fraud in 73 cases and attempted aggravated fraud in seven cases. The investigation has included over a thousand plaintiffs and received a lot of attention for the way the young people steal from the elderly.
“Unique Evidence”
Three of those arrested were teenagers. Two were arrested in Eskilstuna, one in Portugal and one in Gothenburg. None of them have confessed to the crime.
In six months, the fraudsters collected up to SEK 40 million. The prosecution itself includes 80 plaintiffs and fraud for SEK 12.4 million.
– The evidence is completely unique in this case. We can play back the fraud calls themselves, how they went about and I can show what it looked like on the screen, says prosecutor Anton Larsson Forsberg.
Taunted his victims
The maximum penalty for aggravated fraud is eight years in prison. Prosecutor Anton Larsson Forsberg believes that the suspected crimes are close to the maximum penalty.
In Mission Review, viewers could see how the fraudsters went about their business. They sent out their enticing text messages and manipulated their victims over the phone. In several cases, they taunted their victims when they hung up.
