Anyone under the age of 15 who commits a crime cannot be sentenced to any penalty. In some cases, the police or prosecutor can still carry out an investigation to investigate what has happened and provide the social services with information to be able to deploy support or care efforts.
In the case of particularly serious crimes, the prosecutor can request that the court examine the issue of guilt through so-called evidentiary proceedings. This is only done when the prosecutor judges that it is possible to prove that the person committed the crime.
The court will then decide whether the young person committed the crime or not, but will not impose any penalty.
The law was changed on July 1, 2023. Previously, it was the social service that requested that a court examine the debt issue.
