According to a new survey from Riksförbundet M Sweden, one in three car drivers neglects to flash their lights at roundabouts (36 percent). Among taxi drivers and bus drivers, only one in two blinks. The worst among the motor vehicles are the A-tractor drivers.
– It is careless not to use turn signals. By being clear in traffic, we reduce the risk of accidents and contribute to a safer environment for everyone on our roads, says Heléne Lilja at Riksförbundet M Sweden.
If you also count the cyclists, they are by far the worst. The majority do not signal in either four-way intersections or roundabouts.
Östersund worse than the national average
In Östersund’s roundabouts, just over half of all drivers flash their lights, but that does not surprise Stig-Björn Sundell, who is a road representative in Jämtland for M Sweden.
– We see the same thing every year. There is a tendency up here that we don’t help each other, an attitude of “you shouldn’t get ahead of me”, he says.
Then you should blink
Today there is no requirement to flash when entering a roundabout, as there is only a choice of driving direction. However, if you change lanes into the roundabout, you must blink. When you then drive out of the roundabout, you must signal to the right.
