The films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) are often criticized for feeling the same and not having their own cinematic identity. The latest rumor from the Marvel cosmos brings a name into play that stands for exactly the opposite: George Miller has created a few of the most striking blockbusters ever, especially Mad Max: Fury Road and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.
Thor 5 or World War Hulk? George Miller could bring one of the two Marvel films to the cinema
According to a report from World of Reel, there is said to have been a meeting between Miller and Marvel boss Kevin Feige. Feige is apparently looking for potential directors for a new Hulk movie and has put out feelers towards Miller. Miller, who came out as a Marvel fan in an interview with Deadline in 2019, is said to have brought another film into discussion: Thor 5.
The rumor is supported by three additional pieces of information: The meeting between Miller and Feige was allegedly initiated by Thor actor Chris Hemsworth, who was seen as a villain in Furiosa. Production Weekly also lists that a Hulk film will start shooting in 2025. Specifically, it will be a film adaptation of the comic crossover World War Hulk by Greg Pak and John Romita Jr.
The third detail relates to the lead-up to World War Hulk: The first clues should already be scattered in Captain America: Brave New World, which starts in mid-February. Thaddeus Ross, played by Harrison Ford, may have something to do with it. Because he already appears as Red Hulk in the trailer. In addition, further connections to World War Hulk are to be created in Thunderbolts*.
Nevertheless, we should treat the information with great caution. While World of Reel occasionally hits the mark with its scoops, the site founded by Jordan Ruimy often has in the past too noticed by misinformation. World of Reel is not a reliable industry magazine like Variety and Hollywood Reporter. If there is any truth to the rumor, we will certainly find out more soon.
After Avengers: Secret Wars, Thor 5 and World War Hulk would be offered as Marvel events
At least the projects mentioned don’t come out of nowhere. There have been repeated rumors about both Thor 5 and a World War Hulk film adaptation in recent years. In the meantime, even Rogue One director Gareth Edwards has been linked to the next Thor adventure. None of the films have been officially announced yet – perhaps this year at San Diego Comic-Con.

Six MCU films are scheduled for the next two years. After that there is a big question mark. Theoretically, the Blade film with Mahershala Ali is still languishing somewhere in production hell. But that alone won’t carry the MCU into the next decade. With World War Hulk and Thor 5, Kevin Feige could add two promising blockbusters with an event character to the future line-up.
