Is Elon Musk cheating in Path of Exile 2? Community is collecting evidence that the tech billionaire is not playing himself

X owner and tech mogul Elon Musk is known for his affinity for gaming. Since Path of Exile 2’s early access, the billionaire has apparently fallen for the action RPG. But does he actually play his characters himself? The community says: No – and is meticulously watching what happens with Musk.

What does Elon Musk have to do with PoE 2?

  • On December 6th, Path of Exile 2 entered Early Access on Steam. The very next day, Musk explained what he thought of the game, reaching millions of people.
  • In the following weeks, the billionaire allegedly gambled for many hours – and apparently did it quite well. Musk even banned PoE 2 once because his style of play resembled cheating.
  • Many users have followed Musk’s career in live streams and recordings. From this they now deduce: Musk doesn’t gamble himself.

These are the indications: On Reddit, a user documented in detail the milestones Musk has achieved. He lists, for example, that the X owner had several hardcore characters on the ranking list and is said to have found 9 citadels with his softcore character after just 11 days.

From this it could be concluded that Musk has at least a basic understanding of the game – for example, he knows how to pick up items, enter maps or use potions. In a list, however, the user shows that none of this seems to be the case and provides various clips as a source:

  • Musk is said to have failed to find his mana potion in a boss fight and stood around without mana for several seconds.
  • He picks up items by dragging them from the floor into his inventory – sometimes he even wonders why he can’t carry anything anymore when his inventory is full.
  • He leaves strong items lying around while picking up useless stuff just because his loot filter highlights it.
  • Musk is also said to not fully understand how the Atlas connections and “those map things” work.
  • When he enters a map, he should do so with a full inventory and not even use a loot filter. That’s strange for a player at the top of the hardcore leaderboard.
  • Users have observed certain maps being pushed into a tab titled “Elon’s Maps.” If he were actually playing himself, the tab would probably just be titled “Maps”.

Players were also rumored to have whispered to him, which defaulted to suggesting a Chinese message. This is an indication that the player being whispered to is playing on a Chinese client.

Where does Musk find the time to game?

What concerns users on Reddit the most is the question of how Musk actually manages to gamble so extensively. His alleged achievements ultimately require a lot of experience and skill.

This is particularly strange because he supposedly works 16 hours a day. It is already known that Musk likes to gamble from his private jet and occasionally talks about gaming on Mars.

According to the community, it is extremely likely that Musk will let someone else gamble for him. Sharing account information is against Path of Exile 2’s policies, and users are calling for him to be punished like everyone else.

He was already extremely active in Diablo 4 and was at the top of the best players in the world for a short time. It is therefore not surprising that Musk is now apparently at the top in Path of Exile 2, or at least it looks that way.

Elon Musk has been a well-known figure in gaming for a while now. Everyone has probably known him since Elden Ring at the latest – even if he wasn’t necessarily able to shine with specialist knowledge back then: The richest person in the world shows his build in Elden Ring – “My 10-year-old cousin would use that”
