It is called integrative cancer care, combining physical and mental treatments with classic cancer treatments. The aim is to improve treatment results, reduce side effects and increase the well-being of seriously ill cancer patients.
SVT has, among other things, told about Eva from Kalmar who paid just over SEK 350,000 out of her own pocket for such treatment.
Some of the treatments have some scientific support for, for example, reducing side effects, but the majority of treatments have weak or no support when it comes to improving the patient’s chances of getting rid of the cancer.
The treatments consist of high doses of vitamin C, infusions of synthetically produced natural preparations such as turmeric and mistletoe, insulin therapy to lower blood sugar levels and hyperthermia, where radio waves cause fever in the tumors to make them more susceptible to chemotherapy.
The methods used at the Arcadia Clinic are proven by gynecological oncologist Henrik Falconer at Karolinska University Hospital.
Henning Saupe is a cancer doctor and founder of Arcadia Clinic. He tells SVT that there are certainly many studies that show good effects of the treatments they provide, but not enough and large studies.
He believes that the requirements for obtaining the “evidence-based” label are so high and require so many large studies that, in principle, only large pharmaceutical giants can afford it.
– I cannot wait 20 years before a committee considers hyperthermia as evidence-based. I have practiced it for almost 20 years and I know it works, he says.
The Arcadia Clinic has previously operated in Sweden – but had to close after a decision from the National Board of Health and Welfare. Since then, a handful of Swedish patients have applied to the clinic every year. See more in the video below.
