Östgötsk influencer streamed online casinos illegally – may be the first to be sentenced

In a previous review, SVT was able to show how 8 out of 10 top influencers on the video platform Twitch advertised online casinos without a Swedish license – an activity that violates the gaming law.

One of those who streamed casino games without a Swedish gaming license is an influencer from Östergötland with over 150,000 followers on social media. During hour-long live broadcasts on social platforms such as Twitch or Kick, he has encouraged viewers to play – who have also been able to donate money to the influencer. Many of the followers have been minors.

Suspect of several crimes

During the autumn, the influencer was arrested in Linköping, suspected of serious tax offences, serious business money laundering and serious promotion of illegal gambling.

He was released and subsequently traveled abroad – despite a travel ban. Just before the New Year, he was arrested in Spain by order of the Ecocrime Authority. On Thursday, he arrived in Sweden and was arrested by police at Arlanda after being detained in his absence.

The prosecutor now confirms to SVT that the suspicion of promoting illegal gambling is connected to his streaming of online casinos.

If he is convicted, he could become the first influencer in Sweden to be sentenced for promoting illegal gambling at online casinos without a Swedish license.
