Opposition leader in Venezuela arrested
María Corina Machado, opposition leader in Venezuela was arrested today.
Machado made his first public appearance in months.
The 57-year-old politician had called on supporters to come “in the millions” to pressure Maduro to hand over power to Edmundo González Urrutia, the exiled opposition candidate who many international observers see as the rightful winner of the election.
Machado himself had his presidential bid blocked by Maduro-loyal institutions in 2023.

A large search operation is currently underway in Järnafjärden outside Södertälje.
According to the Sea Rescue, they are looking for a man in his 70s.
– It was his wife who alerted us. He would have been on his way out to a summer cottage, says Pontus Svensson, rescue leader.
The sea rescue is currently searching with several units.
– We have two helicopters, a hovercraft, and the rescue service is on plastic with a bunch of units, says Pontus Svensson.
According to him, there is ice in the bay, but it must have gone up at the island the man was on his way to.

Netanyahu is welcomed – despite arrest warrants
If Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wants to attend the commemoration ceremony of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, he will be able to get there without arrest, the Polish government announced.
This despite the ICC issuing an arrest warrant against him.
– Whether it will be the prime minister, the president or the minister of education… whoever comes to Oswiecim, to the ceremony in Auschwitz, will be guaranteed security and will not be arrested, says Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
The memorial ceremony will be held at the end of January.

Frederiksen has stated that the meeting will last for approximately one hour.
After the meeting, she will hold a press conference.
It is scheduled to start at 8 p.m.

– Objects have been thrown into a restaurant, says police spokesperson Daniel Wikdahl.

Two people were injured in a single vehicle accident on Stavsnäsvägen in Värmdö today.
The people traveling in the car were taken to hospital by ambulance.
Long queues arose after the accident when the road was closed completely.
At 4:30 p.m., the road was opened to alternating traffic, but according to the police, it will be closed again, as a salvage operation must be carried out.
