BMW’s New Electric 7 Series Is Available For Sale. The German brand introduced the i7 xDrive60, the first fully electric 7 series. The long-haul luxury sedan went on sale with solid performance, with a dual-engine setup delivering 536HP, a 0-60 MPH sprint in 4.5 seconds, and a front EPA range of 300 miles. However, as with the traditional 7 series, the focus has been on driver comfort.
A curved dual-screen interface awaits drivers, which includes a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch entertainment screen. BMW offers a smartphone-like interface, but you’ll also find a new “Interaction Bar” that provides touch-sensitive controls for general features like climate settings and hazard warning flashers. You can customize the bar’s lighting yourself to react to certain events, such as incoming calls or calling BMW’s Intelligent Personal Assistant (including for the first time from the rear seats).
Users will get a 31-inch, 32:9 ratio 8K rear display with spring for optional cinema screen and a Fire TV interface. Even the rear window shades will close when you turn on the system. Each rear door has its own 5.5-inch touchscreen for air conditioning, media and seating controls, while a standard panoramic LED roof features a light show as well as showing the sky above. You’ll have access to 5G, including a “Personal eSIM” that can switch between cars.
When the i7 xDrive60 arrives in the US in the fourth quarter of the year $120,295($119,300 plus a destination fee).
