The suspicion: Was going to celebrate his retirement – was kicked in the head by a police student

The incident took place on the evening of September 27 in Karlshamn. The man in his 60s had a break with his work colleagues. – This whole day was more or less the last day of work for me to retire. There were some surprises prepared at the company. We would have a little closing there and a little meal and socializing upstairs in the office, he tells the police. When the man and his colleagues were going to a pub, they met three young men in the street. A discussion ensued at the scene. Then the man remembers nothing. – Waking up in the ambulance and having no idea what has happened and why, he says. The pensioner: A genuine near-death experience A man in his 20s who is studying to become a police officer is now charged with serious assault. According to the prosecutor, the police student pushed the man so that he fell to the ground. He then allegedly delivered “a strong kick” to the head of the lying victim. Something the prosecutor calls “special recklessness or rudeness”. The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was in critical condition for a period, according to the preliminary investigation. He was unconscious for several days and had to undergo a number of operations. – It was a genuine near-death experience, you could say, both for me and (the wife) and my children at the time, who were present a lot there and got to see me between operations. Sometimes I was contactable and sometimes not and no one knew how it would go, says the man. The police student admits scuffle The police student admits that he “was in a scuffle” with the man but denies any crime. – I have not fired him. I don’t buy that there is any reason why I would do it, says the accused in police interrogation. Several people at the scene will testify about the incident during the trial. – I don’t remember anything special from those meetings with these other guys, but then apparently this assault started there, which I haven’t understood much about, what drove it or why it escalated. I have not talked to any other people about this, what it was that drove this violence, so I have no memories of it, says the victim in the investigation. The police training’s disciplinary committee must now decide on the accused’s future as a student.
