The status of temporary protection speeds up the access of Ukrainian refugees to working life, but excludes them from Finnish social security and services.
A total of 19,252 Ukrainian citizens have applied for international protection from Finland since the Russian invasion, the Finnish Immigration Service said on Twitter. Russia launched its offensive in Ukraine in late February.
Temporary protection is based on the joint decision of the member states of the European Union to provide protection for Ukrainian refugees. It gives the right to stay in the country for at least a year, but the permit can be extended up to three years if necessary.
