The Electoral Board would process appeals regarding the Sami Parliament’s voter register. They would arrive at opinions to send to the County Administrative Board, which would then make a decision.
Per Mikael Utsi (Guovssonásti), the Sami Parliament’s former chairman of the board and former chairman of the electoral committee, is himself one of those who appealed several names on the voter’s list. He has appealed a total of 177 people. Among other things, the appeals would be processed at the meeting.
The chairman: “We gave him the chance”
Today, Utsi is a member of the electoral committee. And since it was he himself who was behind several of the appeals, a majority of the committee decided that he was a badass.
– We gave him the chance to report himself. It’s tough to make a decision when someone else doesn’t understand that you’re a jerk, says Jennie Granberg, chairman of the Electoral Committee, to Sami radio.
But despite the decision, Utsi refused to leave the meeting.
– I was called to the meeting. Then I must have been considered uneven when I was called so it is a mistake from the chairman, he says to Sami radio.
Doesn’t consider himself a jerk
He himself doesn’t think he was a badass. He believes that he could have treated his own appeals in the same way as any other case.
SR: How do you see the election committee making a decision that you were a jerk – shouldn’t you have left the meeting then?
– I was called to the meeting, says Per Mikael Utsi.
Because the meeting had to be interrupted, the matter has now been postponed until the next meeting.
