34-year-old man charged with murder of pregnant woman in Linköping

The forensic examination of the woman has shown that she was subjected to suffocation and severe violence to the body and head. As a result of the violence, she and the fetus died sometime between March 20 and 21.

The woman was 12 weeks pregnant when she died, according to the lawsuit, and the man now charged, who denies any wrongdoing, was the father of the child.

– My client denies the crime and firmly claims that he has nothing to do with the death, says defense lawyer Mats Tornéus.

Had a relationship with the woman

The 34-year-old man was arrested and detained on probable cause on suspicion of murder, almost a day after the woman was found dead. The arrest was made in connection with a traffic control in Stockholm. In the car, the police found, among other things, bloody clothes and objects that could be linked to the crime scene.

– I mean that the motive for the crime is that the man did not want to have children with the woman. I also mean that he has planned the deed. He has cleaned up traces in the apartment and washed the woman’s body, says Gabriella Ergül, senior prosecutor and preliminary investigation leader, in a press release.

More charges

The man has been detained since March 22. He is also charged with, among other things, illegal threats and illegal identity theft against two other women. Those acts will be addressed in the same trial.

The main hearing begins on January 13 and is expected to last eight days.
