Rally car driver Esapekka Lappi doesn’t think his career will continue in the World Rally Championship.

– There is a very small probability if it somehow continues. And if it continues, then it will definitely be more of a hobbyist’s job, Lappi told a press conference on Wednesday.

Lapland’s contract with Hyundai ended last year. In December, the team confirmed that by Thierry Neuville, Ott Tänak too in addition, he will drive as its third driver in the coming season Adrien Fourmaux.

– Now it also feels liberating in the sense that I have been tied to some brands for years. Now I don’t have those strings on my shoulders, so I feel somewhat empty, the Finn continued.

Last season Lappi drove in five World Series competitions.

The 33-year-old Lappi hinted at the possibility that he would be seen in some rally SM series competitions in the future.

– I’m starting to get older too, and of course the future lies in young people, Lappi said and said that he considers the domestic series to be a good showcase for young drivers.

– But why can’t I try going to some competitions as some kind of speedometer? It could be that I’m not driving hard enough. But then it would be a good thing for the young people, that if they can wash me, it would be a really good place for them to show off.

The first round of the 2025 season of the World Rally Championship will take place on the 23rd-26th. January in Monte Carlo.
