Employee stabbed to death • Suspected perpetrator must suffer from mental illness, according to reports
The incident took place at 19.40 on Tuesday evening. The woman was then stabbed and taken to hospital by ambulance helicopter, but her life could not be saved.
A 25-year-old man has been arrested and is suspected of murder. The police state that there is currently nothing to indicate that he has any connection to the victim.
The police see no clear motive for the incident. According to information to TV4 Nyheterna, the attack was apparently unprovoked and is seen by the police as an act of insanity. They suspect that the perpetrator may suffer from mental illness, according to the data.
Gathering the employees
ICA now confirms to TV4 Nyheterna that the woman in her 60s was employed at the store and had worked there for a long time. Shortly after the crime, the company went into crisis mode and gathered the woman’s colleagues.
– Of course they feel terrible about this. After all, this is an event no one should have to be a part of. It is a person who has been exposed to a terrible event in the middle of his work. It is clear that it affects everyone, says Anders Jonasson, head of store security at Ica Sweden.
During Wednesday, the employees will once again gather and be offered support and encouragement.
– This shouldn’t have to happen, but last night it did. Our thoughts and all focus now go to the family and co-workers.
“Well-kept store”
The details of the exact sequence of events are still unclear, and Ica does not want to comment on the information the company has received so far from the police about what happened.
According to Anders Johansson, security guards were present at the incident.
– It is a store that works a lot with security and is well managed. We know they have a preparedness to deal with this, but no one is fully prepared for this to happen.
Causing concern throughout the country
The incident arouses concern among store employees throughout the country and on Wednesday information is sent out to all ICA employees in Sweden about the act and what the company is doing to support the employees.
The store security manager believes that it is too early to answer whether something in the security work needs to change.
On Wednesdays the shop is closed. In the area, the act arouses thought and concern.
– It is deplorable and terrible, especially when it seems to have been unprovoked, says regular customer Conny Trensmar.
