Return to Monkey Island will have a new interface
When we look at the first screenshots published for Return to Monkey Island, which is announced to adopt a modern drawing style, we can get some clues about this drawing style, even though we do not encounter many details. On the other hand, some places where the game will take place are also shared in these screenshots. The explanation and screenshots of Ron Gilbert at the beginning of the game are as follows;
“Yes, there is point and click. This is true. We do other things in terms of the interface, while having fun and developing something. Frankly, it’s not like Thimbleweed or the interfaces we developed at that time. When Delores came out, we played a lot with the interface and stuff and kept improving. A significant part of this was, in some way, to preserve and enhance the species. Not letting it be static, we developed it by saying, “Well, that’s what we did thirty years ago, so that’s exactly how we’re going to do it nowadays.”
In a way, this was Thimbleweed Park. So this game, we really looked at what we could do differently, better and more fluidly, and Dave and I spent a lot of time looking at the interface, “What’s important to people? What are people trying to do?” I don’t want to say exactly what we’re doing yet, but I can definitely say it will be a really fun evolution of the interface.”
