orange warning for snow and low temperatures

The orange warnings apply to northwestern and southwestern Svealand and Dalsland. Strong winds and decent amounts of snow are to be expected during the day.

– It can probably reach a total of three or four decimetres, then it will drift. It will be difficult, says Kjell Lundmeteorologist at SMHI.

Yellow warnings are issued in large parts of Sweden, from Skåne to southern Norrland.

— With this wind, it means that it can be very difficult locally. It’s awkward overall, says Lund.

In Götaland and southern Svealand, the snowfall from the south changes during the day to rain, sleet and plus temperatures. In northern Norrland, no warnings have been issued, but it is very cold – up to minus 30 degrees locally.

“Afterwards it will become a little milder, but it will take some time,” says Lund.

The Swedish Transport Administration has already gone into national staff mode and is preparing extra resources. Extra high preparedness exists in the areas where orange warnings are issued. The authority has also coordinated with the Swedish Agency for Community Protection and Preparedness (MSB) and at government level.

Since before, trains have been canceled on the Umeå–Boden and Luleå–Kiruna routes until Monday evening. However, the night train service between Stockholm and Narvik resumes during the day.

“It will put things at risk when we pass minus 30, then it wears hard on everything called metal,” said the Swedish Transport Agency’s press manager Bengt Olsson to TT on Sunday.
