Germany warned Syrias new leadership against pursuing an Islamist regime

According to the visiting German minister in Syria, Europe does not intend to support new Islamist structures.

Germany warned the new leadership of Syria on Friday not to establish an Islamist regime in the country. At the same time, France reminded that a political solution should be reached with the Kurdish factions in Syria.

– Europe supports Syria in the change of power, but Europe does not support new Islamist structures. It is not only about our own security, but what I have repeatedly heard from many Syrians in Germany and here in this region, emphasized the German foreign minister who visited Syria Annalena Baerbock.

Among other things, the new leader of Syria to Ahmed al-Shara who met Baerbock said that he made it clear to the country’s new leadership that women’s rights are one of the yardsticks by which the success of the administration is evaluated.

The French foreign minister who visited Baerbock in Syria on Friday Jean-Noel Barrot in turn brought up the Kurdish question.

– France’s allies with the Kurds must reach a political solution so that they are fully included in the political process, Barrot advised.

Baerbock and Barrot’s visit to the country was the highest-level EU visit to Syria since rebels overthrew the country’s autocratic regime Bashar al-Assad almost a month ago.
