Armand Duplantis chooses to sit out the indoor EC in athletics in March.
Instead, the Swedish pole vault star chooses to focus on the indoor WC in Nanjing, China, just a few weeks later.
– Yes, I don’t compete indoors that much, so the plan is for it to be the WC, he says to Sportbladet.
On March 8, the pole vault qualification begins at the indoor EC in the Netherlands in Apeldoorn. But then comes the Swedish world star Armand Duplantis25, not to be with. The reason is that he is instead betting on the indoor WC, which starts just 13 days later.
Duplantis prioritizes the indoor WC
For the second time in a row, “Mondo” chooses to target the indoor EC, it is obviously a championship that the track and field athlete does not prioritize very much.
– Yes, I don’t compete indoors that much, as the plan is for it to be the WC. It looks like last year, he tells Sportbladet.

The reason for the tight schedule is that the world championship, which is held in Nanjing, China, has already been postponed. It should actually have been held already in 2020, then in 2021, and then in 2023. But all times the championship has been moved due to the corona pandemic. This time it looks like it’s going away, and with Armand Duplantis in place.
“Mondo” will be in the Finnkampen
His racing schedule for 2025 is not completely nailed down yet. But “Mondo” has already promised that he will compete in the Finnkampen at Stockholm’s stadium next summer when the competition celebrates 100 years.
– Yes, it will be fun. I always want to be in Stockholm when it works in terms of time, he says to the evening newspaper.

It has previously been reported that Duplantis, who beat the Norwegian hurdler Karsten Warholm in a 100-meter race this summer, will compete in the relay (4×100 meters) going forward. He is obviously very fast. But next year, the focus will only be on pole vaulting.
– I would have liked to, but I don’t think mum or dad would ever approve, as the Finn Championship is so close to the WC in Tokyo. They saw how I felt the day after the sprint duel against Karsten Warholm in Zurich. It ached everywhere in the body and even in places I didn’t know existed. But quite honestly, I would like to run a relay for myself and try to beat that old Swedish record. I hope there will be an opportunity in the future, he says.
Good luck with next season, Armand! There’s no way to top your magical 2024, but it will be very exciting to see what you come up with next year.
