Being a contract killer is a tough job. Lead actor Keanu Reeves also notices this after the four films in the John Wick franchise. He loves the role, though two painful reasons speak against another appearance. He now reveals this in a new interview.
Keanu Reeves doubts John Wick 5 – but we’ll see him again in 5 months
Speaking to CBS, Reeves explained:
Never say never, but my knees are like, ‘You can’t do John Wick anymore.’ So my heart wants to, but I don’t know if my knees can.
As Reeves has often emphasized, every John Wick shoot requires top performance from its actors due to its complex stunt scenes. While filming the comedy Good Fortune, the effort finally seemed to take its toll: Earlier this year, Reeves was shown using crutches. As he revealed on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in July, he slipped on a mat and broke his kneecap, the “cracked like a potato chip.”

It’s quite possible that his lack of John Wick 5 confidence is due to the set mishap. In fact, another sequel to the main action series recently seemed to be a long way off. While there was initially talk of a sequel very quickly after John Wick: Chapter 4, Reeves and director Chad Stahelski subsequently spoke of a focus on other projects. In 2025, Stahelski will tackle a fantasy project with Henry Cavill, which could take up a lot of his time.
However, Reeves and Stahelski are only hesitant about parts of the main series: the franchise itself is currently flourishing. On the Amazon series The Continental The spin-off Ballerina will follow in June 2025, in which Reeves will also make an appearance. The sequel series John Wick: Under the High Table and another spin-off about the blind assassin Caine (Donnie Yen) are also being planned.
