This is what the weather will be like on New Year’s and twelve o’clock: “Quite noisy”

There are many people who wonder about the weather on New Year’s Eve and above all around twelve o’clock.

– We have an area with rain, sleet and snow moving north over southern Sweden and it will also be very windy there. At midnight we can count on snow in southernmost Norrland, all of Svealand and northern Götaland. There will be wet snow and remaining Götaland rain over the southern Swedish highlands. In central and northern Norrland there will mainly be breaks, but in Norrbottensfjällen there will be snow showers, says TV4’s meteorologist Leon Lee.

Warning of heavy snowfall

On Monday, SMHI issued several yellow warnings about heavy snowfall in almost all of Svealand and in northernmost Götaland and southern Gävleborg counties on New Year’s Eve. The warning comes into effect at 19:00 and just before midnight it is extended to eastern Svealand.

“A heavy snowfall passes east during New Year’s Eve and can bring 5-10 cm of snow, locally up to 15 cm. In the southern parts of the area, the snowfall turns into rain,” it says on the website.

The heavy snowfall can create major problems in traffic.

– It looks like it will be a really messy New Year’s Eve with large amounts of snow, says TV4’s meteorologist Peter Kondrup.

There you can see the fireworks

The weather can make it difficult to see the New Year’s fireworks – but in some places it is possible.

– You will be able to see low and close fireworks in most places, but fireworks from further away will probably be difficult to see in southern Sweden. However, there are good chances of seeing them from Jämtland, Medelpad and further north, says Leon Lee.

After the New Year comes cold polar air that flows down over Scandinavia and brings slightly lower and more normal temperatures for the season in early January.

– But today, Monday, we have very windy weather in northern Sweden where we have yellow warnings issued. Locally in northern Norrland, the gusts can reach storm force and in the Lapland mountains we have snowfall combined with strong winds. The warnings end tonight and the winds subside until tomorrow, says Leon Lee.
