They decided to disappear into the wilderness in Jokkmokk – occupied mountain hut

It was at the end of September that the man from Uppsala sought north.

– I wanted to be in peace so I planned to disappear for a while, says the man in police interrogation.

He had 50-60 kilos of food, preservatives, sleeping bags, tents and clothes with him on the train north.

He sought out an area west of Jokkmokk where he had hiked in the mountains before. In roadless land he found a kayak that he stole.

Arrested after police intervention

He paddled out into the wilderness and found an empty cabin in which he later settled.

For a month, the man lived in the cabin, picked “a lot” of blueberries and lingonberries. He also started to build a cabin in the forest with tools and materials that, according to his own statement, he stole from other cabins.

In the end, the man was discovered by a cottage neighbor and after a police operation with a helicopter, he was able to be arrested. He was later detained by prosecutors.

Plans to return

The man is now charged on suspicion of gross domestic violence and two counts of theft. He admits to crime.

In police questioning, the man states that he plans to return to the area when he is released.
