Afghanistan has attacked several targets in Pakistan in retaliation for deadly attacks in Paktika province, the Afghan Ministry of Defense said.

Earlier this week, more than 40 people were killed in Pakistani airstrikes on four targets in Afghanistan, according to the Taliban government. The aim was to destroy a training facility and kill rebels.

The Ministry of Defense states on X that the attacks were directed at targets linked to those who “organized and coordinated the attacks”. They have not stated whether there are any injuries or how the attacks took place.

According to Hurriyet Daily News sources, 19 Pakistani military personnel and three Afghan civilians have been killed, AFP reports. Meanwhile, security sources told the AP that a Pakistani paramilitary has been killed and seven others injured in clashes along the border.

No one from Pakistan’s foreign ministry has commented on the attacks.

The conflict in the border area has escalated recently, but has latently been a source of concern since the Taliban took power in Kabul in 2021.
