Before the new year, Postnord will raise the price of stamps substantially. More precisely, the increase is 22 percent for a postage stamp.
The increase is due to fewer and fewer people sending mail. Letter volumes have decreased by more than 65 percent since 2010 as more and more people choose to communicate via digital channels.
“When fewer letters are sent, each letter becomes more expensive to handle. A large part of our costs are fixed and are not affected by how many letters are sent. When volumes drop, these costs must be spread over fewer shipments, which makes each letter more expensive to handle,” Postnord wrote in an email to SVT.
