A bridge in the Brazilian state of Goiás collapsed into the Tocantins River last Sunday.
The death toll from the bridge collapse in northern Brazil has risen to ten.
A bridge in the Brazilian state of Goiás collapsed into the Tocantins River last Sunday. Three trucks and their passengers were crossing the bridge at the time of the collapse.
The Brazilian navy has been doing rescue work in the area. So far, the search has found the bodies of ten people who died in the accident. Seven people are still missing.
Brazilian authorities warned on Tuesday that the Tocantins River may have been contaminated by sulfuric acid carried in two trucks that plunged into the water.
The cause of the collapse is currently being investigated, but according to local authorities, the first indications are that the central girder of the bridge, built in the 1960s, gave way under too much ballast.
