In a few days, Robert Eggers’ horror new edition Nosferatu – The Untote will be hitting German cinemas after the film has already thrilled the international press. The celebrated The Witch and The Lighthouse director has apparently developed a taste for reboots, as his next project will be another fantasy cult film: The journey into the labyrinth.
Nosferatu director Robert Eggers is set to direct the new Journey into the Labyrinth film
As the usually reliable scooper Jeff Sneider writes in his newsletter, Robert Eggers is supposed to make a new Journey into the Labyrinth film. The Nosferatu director will not only take a seat in the director’s chair, but will also be responsible for the script for the fantasy film.
The film is a collaboration between Sony and the Jeff Henson Company, who announced plans for a new Labyrinth film at the beginning of the year. So far it is unclear whether the film is intended to be a complete reinterpretation of the 1986 fantasy classic or whether it will be a kind of sequel.

Previous plans for a new Labyrinth film failed
Over the years there have been several rumors about a new Labyrinth film. Alien: Romulus director Fede Álvarez was brought on board for the project in 2017, but announced his departure in 2020. Afterwards, Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson was linked to the film. In 2023, Derrickson announced that his journey into the labyrinth would no longer continue.
Journey into the Labyrinth was directed in 1986 by puppeteer and director Jim Henson, best known as the creator of The Muppet Show. In it he gathered Music legend David Bowie as Jareth, the Goblin King as well as a young Jennifer Connelly (Requiem for a Dream) in front of the camera, who ends up in the fantastic labyrinth.
It remains to be seen whether Robert Eggers will actually manage to revive the iconic fantasy classic. Until then, you can look forward to Eggers’ Nosferatu, which will finally be released in German cinemas on January 2nd, 2025.
