Pointing out that methyl alcohol (methanol) is used instead of ethyl alcohol (ethanol) in the production of fake alcohol, Şener explained that methanol cannot be synthesized in the human body, therefore it causes poisoning.
Şener pointed out that while ethanol can be cleaned by excreting it through metabolic methods, this is not possible with methanol and said, “Actually, it is a chemical substance. As the public understands it most commonly, methanol is an antifreeze. It is used in the chemical, plastic and petrochemical industries.” he said.
EVEN HALF A GLASS CAN BE DEADLY
Stating that even approximately 30 milliliters of methyl alcohol, which poisons the body, can be fatal for a person, Şener continued as follows:
“Even an amount as small as half a glass of water is fatal. In the first 6 hours after ingestion, headache, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain occur. Most people do not take it seriously at first because alcohol has such side effects. After the first 6 hours, other alcoholic beverages can cause alcohol problems.” Its most distinguishing feature compared to the drinks is blurred vision and loss of vision. Unfortunately, this substance accumulates behind the nerves in the eye and in the brain, causing permanent blindness. Unfortunately, if the consumption of fake alcohol continues, damage occurs to other organs. “If we cannot intervene over time, we lose these people, they die.”
Stating that fake alcohol poisoning is mostly detected between the ages of 30 and 45, Şener said, “Because widespread alcohol consumption is more evident in these age groups. It is generally more evident in the male group.” made his assessment.
Stating that it is generally unknown what the alcohol content of the alcohol taken to produce alcoholic beverages at home is, Şener said, “In general, it is necessary to stay away from high alcohol drinks. Because those who counterfeit this business mostly counterfeit products with high alcohol content. Because their profit is higher.” he said.
DIFFICULT TO DISCRIMINATE
Stating that it is not possible to distinguish fake and real alcohol placed side by side, Şener said:
“You cannot distinguish it by its taste or smell. Taste and smell are the same. You can only distinguish it by dropping certain chemicals. It can be distinguished by dropping baking soda, but there is no guarantee of this. Because when these people generally do this, they mix ethanol and methanol. In other words, there is ethanol in it. It is completely “It does not consist of methanol.”
Şener added that those who experience health problems after alcohol consumption should apply to the nearest health institution.
