A soldier from North Korea has been captured by Ukrainian forces, Yonhap reports, citing South Korea’s intelligence service.

“Through real-time information sharing with a friendly nation’s intelligence agency, we can confirm the capture of a wounded North Korean soldier,” South Korean intelligence said in a statement.

It is unclear exactly where the soldier was captured, according to the AFP news agency.

According to estimates, Pyongyang has sent around 11,000 soldiers to support Russia.

In a post on X on December 23, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that over 3,000 North Korean soldiers had been killed or wounded in the fighting in the Kursk border region.
