In connection with Christophe Pedroletti being appointed hospital director at Karolinska University Hospital this summer, his sister, Corinne Pedroletti, was recruited as acting operational director at Danderyd hospital – with a salary of SEK 158,000 a month.
Cold facts have previously revealed that Christophe Pedroletti, who was then the CEO of Danderyd Hospital, had access to the matter – in violation of the rules of competition.
But now it appears that more may have acted incorrectly in connection with the appointment.
“Spreading down the organization”
The person who held the employment interview with Corinne Pedroletti was the current CEO Erik Sköldenberg. But he was at the time directly subordinate to Christophe Pedroletti. Something experts say can fall under so-called delicacy pride.
– It’s not just about whether you perceive yourself as a badass in a situation, because you can do that as a civil servant. But to outsiders, you can appear to be obviously a jerk, and that assessment is important, the objective assessment, says Richard Sannerholm, lecturer in public law at Södertörn University.
Olle Lundin is a professor of administrative law at Uppsala University and he too sees problems in the case.
– It is problematic when the top manager is rude, because then it spreads downwards in the organization. And then you should send it to a board or something similar, someone who is hierarchically above, says Olle Lundin.
“Not in a dependent position”
The position as acting operational director at Danderyd Hospital was never advertised, citing that it is a temporary position, and neither Region Stockholm nor Danderyd Hospital have wanted to answer whether anyone more than Corinne Pedroletti was interviewed.
TV4 Nyheterna has therefore searched for those responsible, who do not want to appear for an interview. But in an email, they write that healthcare director Mikael Ohrling was the one who suggested Corinne Pedroletti as a candidate for the position to Erik Sköldenberg. They believe that at the time of the job interview, Erik Sköldenberg had already been appointed acting CEO at Danderyd and thus was not dependent on her brother.
But that reasoning is questioned by the experts, who believe that it is about whether he is to be considered objective in the case or not.
– The manager’s sister gets quite a high position in a decision that the manager really should have made but from which he now keeps a little distance. You can think from an outsider’s perspective that it is difficult to make such a decision on completely objective grounds for those who are closest to the person concerned in the organization, says Richard Sannerholm.
Olle Lundin agrees.
– It’s clear as hell if you sit at the bottom of the organization and have to make a decision about whether or not the senior manager’s sister should get employment, then you are affected by this relationship.
