For sci-fi fans, Christmas is a celebration for more than just holiday reasons. Most of the time the British series Doctor Who has a X-Mas special up your sleeve. And since Disney+ has been in cahoots with the BBC production, the special episode is even being broadcast parallel to the broadcast on UK television.

So today, December 25th, 2024 from 6:10 p.m., the curtain opens on the Doctor Who Christmas special Joy to the world with Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan as the Doctor’s sidekick (Ncuti Gatwa).

Doctor Who: Joy to the World – the sci-fi Christmas special on Disney+

Since his last adventure, the 15th Doctor (Gatwa) has been traveling alone in the TARDIS again and visiting Time Hotelwhich allows guests to stay overnight in all possible time periods. When Joy (Coughlan) checks into London in December 2024, she has no idea what a time travel adventure full of aliens and dinosaurs awaits her. Your new Time Lord acquaintance uncovers a sinister danger for the entire world, behind which old adversaries are hiding.

Doctor Who – S41 Christmas Special (German) HD

While Russell T. Davies (again) took over as showrunner for the final season of Doctor Who, his successor at the time, Steven Moffat, was responsible for this Christmas episode. Alex Sanjiv Pillai directed.

Doctor Who will continue regularly on Disney+ from next year, if the 2nd season with Ncuti Gatwa as an adventurous Time Lord. It is called “Season 2” for reboot reasons, although it is actually the 15th season since the New Who era starting in 2005. As new companion Actress Varada Sethu (Coronation Street) will then succeed TARDIS co-driver Ruby Rose (Millie Gibson), as the BBC confirmed in the spring.

Doctor Who began on the British broadcaster BBC in 1963, a few years before the start of Star Trek with Star Trek. Since then, the series has been a permanent sci-fi institution with a constantly changing star in the same, always recurring role.
