According to preliminary information, the gang started shooting at the hospital, which was about to be reopened.
At least two journalists were killed on Christmas Eve in an attack on a hospital in Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince, according to a local media collective. In addition, one policeman is said to have been killed in the attack.
Journalists were also wounded in the attack, and were reportedly being treated at another clinic.
According to preliminary information, gang members started shooting at the hospital, which was about to be reopened. The hospital was closed in February after it was attacked by the same gang alliance known as Viv Ansanm, which was also said to be responsible for the Christmas Eve attack.
Last week, the same gang coalition set fire to another clinic in Port-au-Prince. No one was injured in the fire, but a large part of the clinic was destroyed.
Gang attacks have increased
Attacks by heavily armed gangs have been on the rise for more than a month in the Caribbean capital of Haiti. Armed groups are accused of numerous murders, rapes, robberies and kidnappings for ransom.
A multinational operation led by Kenya to support the Haitian police has failed to reduce the violence. The operation receives support from the UN and the United States.
The attacks have also targeted key buildings and infrastructure. Among other things, they forced the capital’s airport to stop commercial flights in November.
