Famine spreads in war-torn Sudan | News in brief

More than 600,000 people in Sudan are already suffering from a catastrophic famine, and in addition, more than eight million people are on the verge of starvation.

Famine has spread wider than before in Sudan, where the civil war has been raging for more than a year and a half, says a report used by the UN. According to it, the situation is expected to get even worse.

According to the IPC report (Integrated Food Security Phase Classification) used by UN agencies, the famine has already spread to two refugee camps in the western parts of the country and the southern parts of the country. More than 600,000 people in Sudan are already suffering from a catastrophic famine, and in addition, more than eight million people are on the verge of starvation.

According to the UN food program, the number may be even higher, as it has not been possible to collect data from parts of the capital Khartoum and al-Jazira state.

According to a report published on Tuesday, the food supply of almost 25 million people, or about every second Sudanese, is uncertain until May.

During the civil war in Sudan that started in April last year, 12 million people have been forced to leave their homes.
